Changing File Association Don't you just love it when someone sends you a file with an extension, "guess.bzz" and you can't open it because you have no idea what kind of file it is or what program it uses to display this file! You should ALWAYS file with a "common" extension or at least tell the recipient what type of file it is! Example: Don't send anyone a picture, "mypicture.bzz" before converting it to "mypicture.jpg". Windows uses file associations to choose which program will run and display the file. For example if you double click a text file in explorer, windows will open it in Notepad or if it is a ".wav " file it will open in Sound Recorder or Media Player. If you want the file to be associated with another program use one of the following methods. Using Windows Explorer, find the file you downloaded. 1. Hold down the Shift key while right-clicking on the file, and choose Open With option from pop-up menu. Windows will display Open With... dialogue box with all your computer's registered applications Note: application is a program 2. Scroll through the list and select the program you want to use with the selected file type. If the program you want to use is not listed, click and browse to the desired program. 3. To make the association permanent, make sure the check box "Always use this program to open this type of file" is checked. Click OK 4. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work. Method #2 1. Click Start->Run. 2. In the Run dialogue box type winfile.exe and click OK . In the File Manager program that opens select the file and choose associate from file menu. Browse to the desired application (program) and click OK.
